Old Saltworks Bad Reichenhall
The Old Saltworks in Bad Reichenhall, built in 1837 on the orders of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, is an impressive industrial monument and salt museum. As one of the most beautiful saltworks in the world, it offers visitors a fascinating insight into the history and technology of salt extraction. The heart of the facility is the main brine house with its neo-Romanesque brine house chapel, surrounded by an extensive network of tunnels and grottoes.
The water wheels of the Old Saltworks still pump brine from the depths, which is used for spa and health purposes. A tour of the Old Saltworks includes a visit to the salt museum and the underground spring construction. Audio plays with historical sequences bring the history to life.
After the tour, visitors can explore a variety of salt and brine products in the salt shop. The site of the Old Saltworks also houses Magazin 3, a venue for music and cabaret events.
